Stress, Vitamin C, Vitamins for the Body

Vitamin C & Stress

April is National Stress Awareness month and yesterday I was doing an online hangout with the lovely ladies over at Aging But Dangerous:
https://www.agingbutdangerous.com/ FB: https://www.facebook.com/agingbutdangerous/

As their go-to nutritionist, the topic we were talking about was stress. Stress really is the number one killer and is an underlying predator of all of life’s challenges and the diseases we face like heart disease, anxiety, diabetes and more.

The dictionary definition of stress is

1.pressure or tension exerted on a material object.”the distribution of stress is uniform across the bar” synonyms: pressure, tension, strain, tightness, tautness; rare tensity” the distribution of stress is uniform across the bar”

2.a state of mental or emotional strain or tension resulting from adverse or very demanding circumstances.”he’s obviously under a lot of stress

What is interesting to note is that stress is not just emotional and having to do with the mind. Stress on the body comes from overwork, overuse, abuse, neglect, poor nutrition, deficiencies, lack of sleep, etc. etc. etc. You get the idea.

One way to help with stress is with Vitamin C. Yep good old Vitamin C is VERY beneficial for stress. According to an article from Psychology Today, in 2003:

“People who have high levels of vitamin C do not show the expected mental and physical signs of stress when subjected to acute psychological challenges. What’s more, they bounce back from stressful situations faster than people with low levels of vitamin C in their blood.

In one study German researchers subjected 120 people to a sure-fire stressor—a public speaking task combined with math problems. Half of those studied were given 1,000 mg of vitamin C. Such signs of stress as elevated levels of the stress hormone cortisol and high blood pressure were significantly greater in those who did not get the vitamin supplement. Those who got vitamin C reported that they felt less stressed when they got the vitamin.”

Our adrenal glands also play a key role in stress response by secreting the hormones adrenaline, aldosterone, and cortisol. Our adrenals will secrete vitamin C as a response to stress. Vitamin C stores can be depleted very easily and rapidly when individuals are under constant stress.

Research has also shown that those supplementing with Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) demonstrate lower blood pressure, faster salivary cortisol recovery, and better subjective stress responses.

Vitamin C has been linked to many impressive health benefits beyond helping with the common cold, such as boosting antioxidant levels, reducing blood pressure, reducing heart disease risk, protecting against gout attacks, improving iron absorption, boosting immunity and reducing dementia risk.

Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin that must be obtained from the diet or supplements. Overall, vitamin C supplements are a great and simple way to boost your vitamin C intake and maximize all of the benefits of using vitamin c in stress management and in betterment of your overall health and wellness.

I have three preferred brands that I use with my clients. One is a drinkable supplement that comes in an Isotonic form, which means it is highly bio-available to the body and is pleasant to drink. (available to USA & Canada & Other Countries that are Applicable) The second is for my Canadian clients (this is a Canadian owned and operated company SISU) and is in tablet form and is Ester-C, the only form of vitamin C that delivers 24-HOUR IMMUNE Support. It is also better absorbed and more bioavailable due to the active vitamin C metabolites only found in Ester-C. It is also non-acidic and gentle on the stomach.

And thirdly, for my USA clients I recommend this brand of Ester C that also has Quercetin, which is a flavonoid present in many fruits and vegetables. Due to its antioxidant and other properties, it has a variety of health benefits

All three of these products offer both quality and exceptional delivery capabilities. It really comes down to preference as to what is best for your lifestyle. I have clients who love to make a morning cocktail and drink their vitamins customized to their needs and then they start their day. And then I have clients who prefer staggering out their intake and taking their vitamins in stages throughout the day, as well as clients who prefer to drink their vitamins and those who prefer to pop a pill or swallow a capsule. There is no right or wrong way, only what works for the individual in that they will take them, so that they get the benefit. 🙂

Here are the links to my three recommendations:

Vitamin ‘S’ The Most Important Vitamin of All Time!!!!!!

Vitamin S is the most important vitamin and nutrient for the body, mind and soul, and yet many people do not get enough of it.

I thought with February being heart month, this would be a good time to discuss this important nutrient.

snp hearts

In my years of coaching I have found that so many people suffer from a deficiency of this vitamin.

What is this key nutrient?

It is Self-Love! Self-Love is the most important nutrient for us and it is the one we struggle with the most.

Since February is all about the heart, why don’t we all commit to being our own Valentine? To working at loving ourselves more and judging less?

Just think we could save so much precious time and energy doing things we en-JOY and feeling good instead of wasting our precious time by using it up in self criticism and judgement. You all know what I am talking about here. 🙂

I have  written before on self-love so to keep this simple, here is the link:

I hope you have found this helpful and that you work at getting in your Vitamin S everyday! 🙂

Medical Medium’s 12 Reasons to Drink Celery Juice

I saw this great 12 Reason guide today for why to drink celery juice and thought it is a must share!

This comes right from Anthony Williams, The Medical Medium:

12 Reasons To Drink Celery Juice
12reasonstodrinkcj
1. Lowers Inflammation
Celery juice starves the unproductive bacteria and viruses that are behind inflammation.

2. Supports Weight Loss
Celery juice helps to clean up and detoxify the liver and a sluggish, toxic liver is behind mystery weight gain.

3. Aids Digestion
Celery juice restores hydrochloric acid levels in the stomach for better long-term digestion.

4. Reduces Bloating
Celery juice prompts the liver to increase bile production and strengthens the stomach’s hydrochloric acid production. Old undigested, rotting protein and rancid fats trapped at the bottom of the stomach and in the small intestinal tract can then be broken down, helping bloating.

5. Helps Eczema & Psoriasis
The undiscovered cluster salts in celery juice break down the cell membranes of the pathogens responsible for eczema, eventually killing and destroying them.

6. Fights Infections
Celery juice enhances your entire body’s immune system. White blood cells absorb the sodium cluster salts in celery juice through their cell structure and then use them as an offense mechanism, not just a defense mechanism.

7. Helps Prevent UTI’s
Celery juice is an antiseptic to streptococcus bacteria, which is the true unknown cause of Urinary Tract Infections.

8. Healing For Acne
Celery juice’s undiscovered sodium cluster salts are toxic to bacteria, including streptococcus in the liver and lymphatic system, which is the real cause of acne.

9. Prevents High Blood Pressure
Celery juice helps stabilize blood pressure by cleansing the liver of Liver Troublemakers (see Liver Rescue for info), which leads to healthier blood that can be easily pumped by the heart,

10. Helps Lower High Cholesterol
Celery juice helps cleanse and strengthen the liver, and breaks up undigested rotting proteins and fats that contribute to a sluggish liver, which is behind high cholesterol.

11. Helps Prevent Ulcers
Celery juice helps destroy the bacteria responsible for ulcers.

12. Protects Liver Health
Your liver’s individual immune system relies on the undiscovered types of sodium cluster salts inside of celery.

For more information on celery juice and how it can help you heal, refer to Anthony’s book “Liver Rescue”.

Glorious and Grand – Ginger!

ginger-1714196_1920 (1)

Ginger is used in numerous forms, including fresh, dried, pickled, preserved, crystallized, candied, and powdered or ground. The flavor is somewhat peppery and slightly sweet, with a strong and spicy aroma. I have found that people either love it or hate it, but with that said, if we realize how amazing it is for us, it would be wise to learn to love it yes?. 🙂

Ginger has been purported to exert a variety of powerful therapeutic and preventive effects and has been used for thousands of years for the treatment of hundreds of ailments from colds to cancer.

It is known to greatly aid in digestion and assimilation and is widely regarded to help prevent colds, flu, motion sickness, and vertigo. Ginger can also help to alleviate menstrual cramps, nausea, heartburn, migraines, sore throats, exhaustion, fatigue, and constipation and it is great in providing relief from the stomach flu and food poisoning according to Anthony Williams, The Medical Medium.

Anthony also states that ginger also contains potent anti-inflammatory compounds called gingerols and is a powerful painkiller which makes it especially beneficial for those who suffer with joint, muscle, and nerve pain. Ginger has incredible immune-boosting and germ fighting abilities and has even been shown to help provide protection and relief from E.coli, Staph infections, and Candida albicans.

In ancient times, ginger was highly regarded as a spiritual cleanser and used before and during holy days as a way to awaken and purify the body, mind, and spirit. Fresh ginger is one of the most potent ways to receive its health benefits. Try making a liter of ginger water or tea everyday by adding freshly grated ginger in water and let steep for 10-20 minutes. Adding some raw honey and fresh squeezed lemon juice will enhance its flavor and add to its protective and healing properties.

Fresh ginger is also excellent juiced with apples and celery for an energizing and immune boosting drink. Using fresh ginger in any of your cooking or preparing of food will also provide healing benefits and should be added whenever possible. If you find fresh ginger too strong for your liking, then try using ginger in powder, capsule, tea, or tincture form that can be found online or in your local health food store.

I personally am looking for more ways to add this feisty plant, from a plant family that includes cardamom and turmeric, into my daily diet. Today, for example, I threw in some chopped fresh ginger root, fresh chopped turmeric, chopped apples, cinnamon, maple syrup and honey into a slow cooker with water. It’s gently brewing right now and I can’t wait to try it. I will strain it and drink it like a warm and soothing tea with benefits. 🙂 So many good ingredients in there! My body and soul are going to love it!

Stay Inspired to ‘Do The Little Things’

inspire lemon

Here I am in Honolulu enjoying 10 beautiful days, and not only did I bring my juicer with me to make celery juice, but I am making sure I am doing my warm lemon water in the morning too! It turns out my day planner is the perfect cutting board to cut up my slices of sunshine. 🙂

I am staying “Inspired” to stay consistent in adding in small things that make a difference even while traveling. Little things do become big things when done consistently. Be persistent in little daily steps towards better health and vitality. It’s so worth it. We cannot enjoy life if we do not feel well in mind, body, and spirit so don’t forget to SMILE today also!! Smiling counts as a little thing that is a big thing when it comes to being a health hack 🙂 🙂

En-JOY the day and remember the little things do count! Stay inspired…..

Healing Though Your Story

pretty-woman-1509956_1920

“If you own the story you get to write the ending.”
Brene Brown

When it comes to our health, a big key, to personal healthy empowerment is in realizing
1) there is always HOPE and
2) WE are a key proponent in our own health care

As Brene Brown’s quote states ‘you get to write the ending’. As a Life Coach and Nutritionist, I hear often people telling a story about their health that would be better left untold, if truth be told. 🙂 It is easy when in pain or suffering, to lose hope and to tell a story that stems from the pain and hopelessness.

If you are suffering, I encourage you to start sharing a new story and envisioning your own happy ending. Some useful phrases might be:

. Everyday my body is getting stronger
. Everyday new research is happening and helping with healing
. In the past I was very sick, but now I am getting better and stronger everyday!
. I believe in miracles and know that I am deserving of one
. I love my body and am showing my body through supporting it to support me!
. My body is always working for my highest good even though I don’t understand it all

These are just a few ideas to add to you daily ‘story’. I would love to hear the ones that you come up with.

Multiple Sclerosis, MS, or is it?

ms .jpg
I don’t know about you but not a week goes by that I don’t hear about someone ‘diagnosed’ with MS. I use the word ‘diagnosed’ with some concern. It sure appears that more and more people are getting frustrated looking for answers to a whole host of symptoms they have. They search and they often get more frustrated. They also wait long wait times to see specialists who refer them to other specialists… the cat and mouse game is definitely not fun for the person who is sick and scared of what is going on with them.

As a Board Certified Nutritionist and a person who has studied wellness and health for about 25 years or more, I find it very odd that with all of the advancement in technology and science and we yet are sicker than ever!

Well that was until I accessed information that dispelled these mystery diagnoses like MS, and made sense to me. The farther I go down the rabbit hole, the more I believe that viruses like the Ebsteinne Barr Virus are behind most mystery illness. I have written about this before. Here is the link to that blog post:
My Blog Post Shedding Light on EBV & Mystery Illnesses like MS and More!

Here is a link to a specific article implicating EBV to MS. This is well worth the read and I share this one far and wide!
Epstein Barr Virus Linked to 7 Major Diseases

For those that know me, you know I am constantly studying and I mean constantly. While someone else is binge watching Netflix, I am most likely listening to a podcast, on a webinar, or reading information on the topic of disease, wellness, food, supplementation etc. I never stop. Just ask my family. lol And now as a Nutritionist the information coming my way is crazy in regarding to information overload.

What does this mean for you? I have filtered down through my academic study, self-study and continual study, some simple factors that are making us sick like EBV, Shingles and Strep!

My favorite resource for MS and how this all ties in is Anthony Williams, The Medical Medium. Here is a link to his blog post on the topic of MS and EBV as well as many other great insights into what is going on.

Medical Medium Healing Multiple Sclerosis

I will close with this. There is HOPE! There truly is. Although I hear about people diagnosed with new labels to mystery illnesses every week, I also hear of way more that are healing and reversing all or many of their symptoms and I am not kidding! The beauty of technology and social media allows us to collaborate and share this information and the secrets to healing and building health.

My Celery Juice Peeps

celeryjuice22

So many of you know that I am on the celery juice bandwagon and am pretty dedicated to it. This morning one of my celery juice peeps who was working a late shift yesterday, sent me this:
tcj

Of course I smiled. I love watching people add new additions to their daily health routines and make them a priority. She later told me she went to the store in her pj’s too. 🙂

This client of mine was originally hesitant on trying celery juice but now not only embraces it, she makes it an utmost priority! Those of us doing the daily celery juice are seeing tremendous benefits. I myself, am going on a 10 day trip to Hawaii next month and am already planning how I am going to bring a small juicer with me. I do not want to miss my daily celery juice. 🙂

I am forever thankful to Anthony Williams, The Medical Medium for his spreading the word about the power of celery juice. I will share a link to all the info you ever need to know about it at the end of this blog post.

I have come to believe that you can have many things in life, but if you do not have your health…. well I will let you fill in the blank on this one …

If we can make small changes and if we are consistent we can make huge strides in our health. This is so encouraging and is why I write this blog post!

I am hearing of people everyday who are healing their conditions like MS, Anxiety, Depression, PCOS, Lymes Disease, Diabetes, Thyroid Disease, and the list goes on. How are they doing it? By feeding their bodies the foods they need to heal, by eliminating toxins and toxic overload, by not feeding the body the foods that feed pathogens and viruses and most of all by committing to themselves that they are worth it.

Here is the link to the blog post all about celery juice.
Celery Juice is The Bomb!

Please share with me your health successes so I can share them with others. If we work together and share our knowledge and successes, we can become huge catalysts in helping all of those who are sick and those who want to improve their health in general. People helping people is awesome stuff. 🙂

Seeing My New Medical Specialist

LOVE ekg
Today I saw my new medical specialist for the first and last time. 🙂 For many years, once a year, I have been seen by a specialist for the monitoring of my hemochromatosis gene that I carry. A couple of years ago my specialist retired and I was referred to a new one who I saw today for the first time.

It was such a Joy to meet this new doctor. I enjoyed my old one but this one was just one of those people who you love the minute you meet them. I am sure it helped that she was wearing the same shoes that I have, just in a different color. 🙂

I also enjoyed this doc because we chatted about food and how it affects the body and how changes can make a difference. We discussed which blood tests are markers for inflammation. We discussed the latest research regarding genes. We discussed my blood work, ultrasound and a prior MRI. She showed me my labs, my charts, and answered any question I had. She treated me like an equal partner in my health care and I felt excited to be a willing participant. I also felt happy and proud that the changes I have made have made a difference. In fact, I am doing so well, I never have to see her again, which is kind of sad, because I loved her 🙂

Anyhow, why am I sharing this story? I am sharing this story to offer hope and encouragement because this is what we talked about when I was there. For example fatty liver is an epidemic and yet it can be totally reversed. Yes it takes time and changes need to be made, but I want everyone to know that reversal is possible. This doctor shared that with me and it confirmed my own belief that it was possible. With proper diet, lifestyle changes and recommendations from your health care provider, it is possible to make great strides in improving this situation and others.

I couldn’t wait to get home to write this so that it might be a blog post of hope and encouragement for everyone. So many people reach out to me as my clients or just through messaging asking me about fatty liver, and other issues, and ask is there hope? So I want everyone to know that there is always hope and there are always things we can do to improve our health. I myself, am seeing this happen for me!

Alright I am going to call this post a wrap but I would like to leave you with a couple of thoughts. There is always something that WE can do to improve our own health, that WE are active participants in our own health care, and that it is okay to ask about your results, labs, etc. so that you can better understand what it all means and in turn you can become a better participant in your own health care.
