Avoiding Toxic Exposure

One of the ways to avoid toxicity and things that are harmful to our bodies is to use safe and non-toxic products.

Today I am talking about shaving cream. I am not even going to bother writing out all of the potential harmful potential ingredients etc. but will keep this simple.

If you Google “Dangers of Shaving Cream” you will find lots of info and most importantly you will see that government sites have it listed in their poison control section! That alone speaks volumes.

Our skin is the body’s largest organ and is really like a big sponge so we need to be very careful what we put on it and at the same time, what we breath into the body.

In my wellness practice as a Nutritionist and Coach, I see more and more people suffering from toxicity and the reprecussions from the toxic world that we are living in.

It is VERY important that we start to immediately lower our toxic load and by switching out your shaving cream, you can assist with lowering the load immediately.

I am a person who loves to shave my legs every time I have a bath or shower. It is just my thing that I like to do. I am going to share with you what I use and what I love!

It was actually made for babies and kids but hey I like to baby myself so it works for me.

DNA Foaming Wash & Shampoo

Ingredients

Gentle Surfactants
Surfactants are cleansing ingredients that help clean the skin and hair by helping water to mix with oil and dirt so that they can be rinsed away. Many surfactants can be harsh on the skin, resulting in mild irritation. The cleansing surfactants in DNA Miracles Natural Foaming Wash & Shampoo are derived from coconut oil, and are gentler than many of the surfactants found in other shampoos and body washes. Panthenol Panthenol is an analog to vitamin B5 and can be converted to vitamin B5 in the skin. In cosmetics, it is classified as both a skin and hair conditioning. Panthenol has been reported to bind to hair and act as a humectant, helping to moisturize and condition the hair.

I know some of you will read this and say “Really Maggie?” But maybe there will be other people, like me, who had no idea about this hack.

This morning I was out of papers towels but I wanted to clean my bathroom mirror, so I just grabbed an old terry cloth wash cloth and used it. Wow! I used it with a little window cleaner I had and it was like magic. I was like why have I been using paper towels which A) are not enviro friendly and B) cost money and they are not necessary!

Now I know there are a lot of great cleaning clothes out there now and some made specifically for this purpose and that’s great, but who knew a simple terry cloth (and rougher the better I’m thinking) would do a miraculous job like that.

I then tried using the cloth to clean my cell phone and voila same thing and I didn’t use any cleaner, just the cloth.

I have been using pieces of flannel with my makeup remover for awhile now and this will be a nice addition to my enviro movement in the house.

I have used non-toxic cleaning products many, many years now and I do have a favorite one for windows which also works well for cutting grease, cleaning ovens and more! For windows and mirrors plain old vinegar and water works great but I like the cleaner too especially when it is so versatile, and concentrated so it last a long time and I can use it for multiple things.
