Throw These Out! LEAD!

I’m at my little lake house organizing some cupboards and these yellow Tupperware canisters were left here when we purchased the place. It was actually pretty awesome because it came with so many things and it was just turn-key but these have to go!!

I have been following the Lead Safe Mama now for a few years and she tests dishes and other things that we use in our homes for heavy metals. These babies are one of the bad ones so I am not even donating these….. they are going right into the trash! I don’t even think you can recycle these And you wouldn’t want to because you’d be recycling the poisons and toxins.

I have always been conscious in recent years of heavy metals and other toxins and now that I am dealing with my own apparent Stage 4 Cancer ‘diagnosis’, I am even more cautious.

I also do hair mineral analysis testing for my clients and of course myself, and I was very high in lead and so this can all contribute to illness and dis-ease in our body. We must always LOWER toxins and DECREASE our input of toxic exposures. So if you have any of these I highly encourage you to just get rid of them.

Here is a link to the article by Tamara Rubin, The Lead Safe Mama.https://tamararubin.com/2019/12/stop-using-your-vintage-tupperware-now-these-measuring-cups-are-positive-for-2103-ppm-lead-250-ppm-arsenic/

I will also attach a link here for information on getting your hair analyzed to test for heavy metals and mineral deficiencies you’re all deficiencies. I find it super helpful to get an idea of where we are at with our toxic and loads and heavy metals I’ve been metals as well as nutrient deficiencies.

Have a great day everyone and always remember small steps everyday in our health goals do add up!!

Saunas For Detox & Relaxation

Have you ever had a sauna or a sauna bath as it is often called? If not, you might want to add this to your list of self-care ideas for 2020.

After having a sauna you feel both amazingly clean and cleansed. Sometimes I go to my gym just to enJOY a nice hot sauna that I don’t have to chop wood and light the fire for :-)….. especially on a ๐•”๐• ๐•๐•• ๐•จ๐•š๐•Ÿ๐•ฅ๐•–๐•ฃ’๐•ค ๐••๐•’๐•ช. In fact I just might go have one this afternoon!

Saunas have been around for 1000’s of years. Saunas are a great way to get a deep cleanse of the body and to sweat out toxins and impurities and the best part is that they are so relaxing and enjoyable!

The Finnish culture is well known for their saunas pronounced ‘sownaas’ or something like that. ๐Ÿ™‚

There are different types of saunas. The first saunas were holes in the ground, with a fire pit in the center and a roof to cover the fire, keep the heat inside and protect everything from the outside elements such as rain and snow. Today saunas usually consist of a small building or room in a house made of wood, usually cedar which smells amazing, and a stove of some sort; either wood or electric. There are also infrared saunas which are well known and used by advocates for personal health and wellness. And let’s not forget steam rooms. You see these often at gyms and spas.

Staying in a sauna not only helps to detoxify through sweat but using a sauna helps to promote blood flow, open nasal passages and drain sinuses, provide more oxygen to tissues and organs and even for some provide relief from aches and pains from arthritis and inflammation. Suffers of asthma sometimes find benefit too. The secret is to customize the usage to both your pleasure factor and health conditions.

And of course if you have any health issues please research how to safely use a sauna in appropriate amounts of time for your particular health condition. Many people can feel light headed while using a sauna so it is important to start off very gradual in the amount of time you spend in a sauna and it is very important to stay hydrated and to rehydrate by drinking lots of good quality water. Eating plenty of fruits after is also a great way to rehydrate and also to add micronutrients into the body such as vitamins and minerals.

Those with blood pressure issues need to be extra careful but keep in mind saunas are known for their role in helping with cardiovascular health so be sure to do your research and to discuss with your health care provider.

One of the things I really like about saunas is they help the liver a lot by removing toxins and getting the blood flowing throughout the body. These are two jobs that our livers handle out of many. Liver health is so important these days as we are seeing an epidemic of ailments such as viral overload, fatty liver, congested liver, sluggish liver and the list goes on.

Here is a link to my past blog posts on Liver Health.

Saunas are also very good for aiding in the removal of heavy metals from the body. Heavy metals are a huge issue that are affecting all of us. If you would like more info on handling and learning about heavy metals you can check out these posts.

In conclusion saunas not only offer natural detoxification, they are also relaxing and enjoyable. They help to relieve pain, stress and anxiety so why not pamper yourself more by adding in regular ‘sauna baths’ into your self-care routine going forward in 2020. Your body, mind and spirit with thank you. ๐Ÿ™‚

Cancer Prevention & Best Practices

We all know cancer is an epidemic and is running rampant in our world. I bet we have all been touched by cancer in some way. Whether ourselves personally, our loved ones, friends, or even our connections through social media and the world at large. It used to be a scary “C” word that was rarer to hear about, but now it is very common.

We are living in a toxic world with many variables and at times it can feel overwhelming when it comes to cancer prevention and the overall betterment of our health in general, but the good news is that there are things that we can do! Here are a few ideas that are easy to incorporate into our lives. And these are things we can do whether we have cancer or we are looking to prevent cancer.

  1. Reduce our exposure to toxic products. We live in a world full of herbicides, pesticides, fungicides, toxic air fresheners, toxic cleaners, colognes, fragrances, heavy metals, toxic food, and more. The more we can sub out these types of products and threats and eliminate using them or being exposed to them the better.

2. Stay Hydratedย One of the biggest health challenges is that most people are very dehydrated, all the way from young children to the elderly and in between. This is a very serious health challenge. Dehydration means that we are not moving out the toxins as easily and that we are getting thick blood. We do NOT want thick blood. No, No, No! I have written about thick blood in a prior blog post that you can read here:ย

Blog Post on Toxic Bloodย

3. Increase Our intake of Fruits & Veggies

There are so many reasons to increase our fruit and veggies intake and hydration is one of them. Fruits especially help to both hydrate and nourish the cells and organs as well as providing the natural sugars our livers and brains need to function. Think of your liver in particular. The fruits help it to function better and to be able to filter out toxins and get them out of the body. And don’t forget about the amazing micro-nutrients fruits and veggies provide like vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients, enzymes and more!

If you are interested in more details on the best foods and why for cancer prevention, here is a link to a detailed article by Marni Clark. Marni is a breast cancer expert and coach, and I enjoy her work immensely. Here is the link:

4. Lower Your Stress

I really believe that there are 3 cornerstones to good health

. Eating functional and whole foods

. Exercise and

. Lowering Stress

Lowering stress means lowering the stress on the body as in toxic exposure, overwork, tiredness, abuse, as well as all of the mental stress we often refer to. Stress is much more complicated than we think of usually. When you think of stress, think of it like a rope. When too much stress is put on a rope, or the rope becomes frail and weak, it breaks!!! That is about as simple as it gets, so do whatever you can do reduce stress. I have written blogs posts on dealing with stress. You can find them here:

Easy Ways to Lower Stressย

5. Peace of Mind

Try and find ways to incorporate more peace of mind in your life. This may involve things like forgiving yourself and others, letting go of the little things, releasing judgments, taking walks in nature and just anything that allows you to ‘feel’ better from moment to moment. If you need to get some help, never be afraid of stepping up to the plate when it comes to getting counseling, therapy, life coaching, or something of that nature. There are people who are there just for that purpose… to help. A great resource that I have come across is called “Life Coach Library” and it is a service online where clients and coaches can find a match for each other. Here is the link for that service if you are interested.

If you need help forgiving yourself and/or others you may find this helpful:

6. Exercise & Movement

We all know that exercise and movement are hugely important to our health but when it comes to prevention of illnesses like cancer, exercise really helps to move the lymphatic system, which helps the body to clean up intercellular waste and remove toxins. This is very, very important, especially for prevention and in the case of a cancer patient having lymph nodes removed. It is then even more important to assist the body in moving the lymphatic fluid to encourage drainage of the intercellular waste.

At our wellness centre “Superior Shores Wellness” in Thunder Bay we offer a service to help with lymphatic drainage and movement. It is especially beneficial for those who don’t get a lot of movement for whatever reason or for those who have had lymph nodes removed as in the case of breast cancer. The service we provide is ‘Whole Body Vibration’ where the client stands on a base plate and using the vibration technology to vibrate the entire body. Wherever you live, if you can take advantage of a service like this, I highly recommend it.

ย
Just walking also helps to move the lymphatics and helps to calm the mind as well as a host of other health benefits. A walk every day can have huge benefits!!!!
ย

I hope you find these ideas helpful. As I write about often, when it comes to health, try not to think in terms of deprivation ie. what you can’t have or do, but turn it around to simply “What can I add in more of today that is good for my health?”. Just try to keep adding in more and more until eventually the scales themselves shift and you have naturally shifted to more good things. Keep it simple. Simple works.

My Hair Analysis & Heavy Metal Detox Smoothie Recipe

heavy metal detox smoothie
Some time ago I posted here about starting the Heavy Metal Detox Smoothie protocol from the Medical Medium. I have been getting many requests for the recipe so I thought I would update everyone on the results from my hair analysis and share the recipe for the detox smoothie.

I sent my hair away to be tested at the lab and when the results came back, I was surprised to find out what I was high in as far as heavy metals go. It shocked me actually. First off Hair Mineral Analysis is screening test to measure the levels of up to 60 essential minerals and toxic metals. With correct testing and interpretation, one can construct a comprehensive metabolic profile of the human body and then take corrective measures to balance nutrients and remove toxins.

I ended up being very high in Lead!! This was a surprise as I have had my water pipes tested in my house several times and apparently the levels are safe. It is my understanding that older homes can have a lot of lead paint on the walls, even if they have been painted over, which is probably the case in my house. I can’t wait to get the results for the rest of my family to see if there is a common theme here.

Needless to say, I am getting more focused on doing these heavy metal detox smoothies and supporting my body with the necessary nutrition and supplementation to deal with this nasty heavy metal that is very toxic, as well as the other imbalances that showed up.

Heavy metals can wreak havoc on the body and mind. Here are some signs indicating the possibility of heavy metals in the body.

1.) Chronic and frequent general feeling of fatigue, illness and discomfort
2.) Chronic pain, mainly in the tendons, throughout the muscles or soft tissues of the body
3.) Brain fog like being confused or forgetful
4.) Digestive issues like constipation, bloating, gas, diarrhea, heartburn or indigestion
5.) Dizziness
6.) Migraines or headaches
7.) Mood swings
8.) Visual disturbances
9.) Depression or anxiety
10.) Nervous system disorders, including numbness, tingling, burning or paralysis in the extremities
11.) Female reproductive issues like infertility, miscarriage and menstrual problems
12.) Speech problems

Here is an excerpt from the Medical Medium blog about heavy metals along with the link to a full article that is very insightful and educational.

Heavy Metal Toxicity Symptoms

“Heavy metals can cause ADHD, ADD, autism, depression, OCD, mood disorders, Alzheimerโ€™s, focus, concentration and memory loss issues, and much more. They can also increase any viral or bacterial issues you may be battling. For example, heavy metals can serve as a feeding ground for Streptococcus A or B, E. coli, C. difficile, H. pylori, and yeast cells. This can create an overgrowth of multiple bacteria in our gut, resulting in a condition known as SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth), which is characterized by bloating, abdominal pain, diarrhea, constipation (or both), and can lead to nutrient deficiencies. Additionally, when viruses such as Epstein-Barr and shingles feed off toxic heavy metals, this can produce symptoms such as tingling, numbness, fatigue, anxiety, heart palpitations, ringing in the ears, dizziness and vertigo, as well as neck pain, knee pain, foot pain, pain in the back of the head, and a variety of other aches and pains that are often attributed to other causes.”
